Things I wish I knew sooner!

I had wasted so much time going nowhere when I first started to lift weights. I can honestly say that I wasted ten years into my lifting career not going anywhere. I was barely building any muscle, losing fat and muscle during cuts, building a bad relationship with food, getting weaker and softer, and having a poor self-image issue. Sometimes I think about how much gains I would have made if I would ask questions and paid attention. I was intimidated to ask, or I was too shy. Sometimes it was my damn ego getting in the way. I thought I had things under control, but looking at my results. I was not. Here are some tips that I wish I had known when I first started.

  • Progress in your training (add weight, volume, frequency, etc.)

  • Switch your mindset to, “You are here to train and not workout.”

  • Stop switching your training program every week

  • Be patient and stick to the program

  • Eat for .6-1 gram of protein of lean body mass

  • Get a whey isolate protein (that is, if you don’t have enough protein in your diet)

  • Don’t be afraid of carbs.

  • Drink water! (Aim for half of your body weight in ounces or start with half a gallon of water)

  • Get great sleep (7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep)

  • Don’t depend on motivation and work on discipline

  • Stress management (Life isn’t that serious, so chill out)

This is the reason why I became a fitness coach. To stop people from wasting so much time and aggravation and help them reach their fitness goals.
